The Link Need

Standing in the Gap for Our Community

Christchurch may be seen as an affluent area, but beneath the surface there are real and growing needs affecting people of all ages.

In fact, two areas in Christchurch are ranked within the top 20% most deprived nationally, with one also falling into the top 20% for deprived families with children aged 0–15.

As Christians, we believe we are called to “stand in the gap”—to offer hope, care and practical support to those in our community who are struggling mentally, physically, spiritually, socially or financially. Our vision is to provide a safe, welcoming environment where people can find help, dignity, and renewed hope.

Why Your Support Matters

Demand for support from Christchurch Foodbank+ has risen sharply. Families are struggling to cope with:

  • Increasing energy bills
  • Rising costs of living
  • Changes to the benefits system
  • Higher interest rates

For many households, incomes are simply not keeping pace, leaving families vulnerable and anxious about the future.

Supporting children and young people is one of our key priorities. Today’s young people face increasing:

  • Social and media pressures
  • Family and peer challenges
  • Risks from county lines exploitation

These pressures are contributing to rising mental health problems, family breakdown and social disruption. Early, compassionate intervention can make a life‑changing difference.

Christchurch has an ageing population, with 34.8% aged 60+ and 22% over the age of 70.
Alarmingly, Alzheimer’s Research UK (2024) reports that Christchurch has the highest prevalence of dementia per head of population in the country.

Social isolation, the impact of lockdowns and ongoing health challenges have hit older people particularly hard. As this demographic continues to grow, so does the need for connection, care and practical support.

Across Dorset, 12.8% of adults are estimated to experience depression or anxiety, and mental health indicators in the BCP area are worse than the national average.
This includes:

  • Higher emergency hospital admissions for self‑harm
  • Higher suicide rates

In reality, 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year. Compassionate, local support is more vital than ever.

Your generosity enables us to stand in the gap for those who are struggling right now.

💙 Your donation will help us to:

  • Support families facing financial crisis
  • Provide early help for children and young people
  • Reduce loneliness and isolation among older people
  • Offer safe spaces for mental, spiritual and emotional wellbeing

Every gift, large or small, makes a tangible difference in the lives of people in our community.

The question we ask ourselves is simple:
How can we stand in the gap? How can we meet the needs of those around us?

With your support, we can be there for those who need it most.

👉 Please donate today and help us bring hope, compassion and practical care to our community.
